CDC/NHSN Criteria for Bronchitis, Tracheobronchitis, Bronchiolitis or Tracheitis

Age of the patient

Body temperature

• cough?

• new or increased sputum production?

• apnea?

• bradycardia?

• respiratory distress?

• rhonchi?

• wheezing?

Is there clinical or radiolographic evidence of pneumonia?

Is there another recognized cause for the patient's clinical findings?

Is a culture from a deep tracheal aspirate or bronchoscopy specimen positive for micro-organisms?

Is an antigen test for a pathogen positive on respiratory secretions?

Is there serologic evidence of an infection?
