An international committee developed criteria for the diagnosis of cerebral palsy in 2006.
Diagnostic features - all of the following:
(1) presence of an abnormal pattern of movement and posture
(2) permanent
(3) non-progressive
(4) associated with an injurious event before, during or shortly after birth
(5) presence of impairment with activity limitations
Associated findings may include:
(1) sensory disturbance
(2) perception disturbance
(3) impaired cognition
(4) communication disorder
(5) behavior disorder
(6) epilepsy
(7) musculoskeletal problem(s) secondary to the abnormal movement or posture
