Kanchanasurakit et al reported the ABCDF-S score to identify the risk of a patient developing hyponatremia while being treated with hydrochlorothiazide. This can help to identify a patient who should be monitored for this complication. The authors are from Phayao University, Phrae Hospital, and Phisanulok University in Thailand.
ABCDF-S is an acronym for age, benzodiazepine, CVA, dose, female, and statin.
Parameters:
(1) age of the patient in years
(2) benzodiazepine therapy
(3) history of cerebrovascular accident
(4) dose of hydrochlorothiazide in mg per day
(5) sex
(6) statin therapy
