Description

Ambe et al developed a score for evaluating a patient with acute cholecystitis prior to cholecystectomy. The authors are from Helios Klinikum Wuppertal and Witten/Herdecke University.

Patient selection: acute cholecystitis prior to surgery

Parameters:

(1) gender

(2) age in years

(3) body mass index (BMI)

(4) ASA score

(5) recurrent colics (biliary)

(6) gallbladder wall thickness in mm

(7) WBC count per microliter

(8) C reactive protein (CRP) in mg/dL

where:

• The first 4 items are referred to as patient-dependent parameters.

• The next 4 items are referred to as clinical parameters.

total score =

= SUM(points for all 8 parameters)

Interpretation:

• minimum score: 0

• maximum score: 9

• The higher the score the longer the operative time, the greater the need for intensive care and the longer the hospital stay.
