Wener at al adjusted the upper limit of normal (ULN) of C-reactive protein (CRP) for age and gender. The authors are from the University of Washington in Seattle based on studies for the NHANES III.
Patient selection: ages 25 to 70 years, United States
Upper limit of normal was the 95th percentile for the normal population.
Parameters:
(1) age in years
(2) gender
(3) race
ULN for CRP for Caucasian or Hispanic female in mg/dL =
= ((age) / 50) + 0.6
ULN for CRP for Caucasian or Hispanic male in mg/dL =
= ((age) / 50)
ULN for CRP for Black female in mg/dL =
= ((age) / 50) + 1.0
ULN for CRP for Black male in mg/dL =
= ((age) / 30)
The ULN for children was lower than for adults.
For conversion to mg/L multiply by 10.
