Abu-El-Haija et al reported an algorithm for grading the severity of acute pancreatitis in a pediatric patient. The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States and Canada and participants in the NASPGHAN (North American Society for Pediatric Gastroenterology Hepatology and Nutrition) Pancreas Committee
Patient selection: pediatric patient with evidence of acute pancreatitis
Parameters:
(1) non-pancreatic organ dysfunction (cardiovascular, renal, pulmonary, etc)
(2) duration of organ dysfunction in hours
(3) local complications (fluid accumulation, etc)
