An ambulatory device can be evaluated based on a number of criteria. These can help determine if the device is appropriate for the patient.
Criteria used to evaluate an ambulatory device:
(1) stability of gait (risk of unsteadiness and/or falls)
(2) mobility
(3) distribution of weight
(4) pressure on nerves and/or blood vessels
(5) proper fitting to reduce skin abrasion or other problems
(6) level of exertion involved in use
(7) training and understanding of use
(8) overall cost
