Guilbert et al reported an asthma predictive index for pre-school children. This is a modification of the predictive index of Castro-Rodriguez et al. The authors are from multiple institutions in the United States.
Patient selection: history of >= 4 wheezing episodes, with >= 1 observed by a physician in a child 2 or 3 years old
Diagnosis of beiing at high risk for asthma - one or both of the following:
(1) >= 1 major criteria
(2) >= 2 minor criteria
Major criteria:
(1) parental history of asthma
(2) atopic dermatitis diagnosed by a physician
(3) allergic sensitization to >= 1 aeroallergen
Minor criteria:
(1) allergic sensitization to milk, eggs or peanuts
(2) wheezing unrelated to colds
(3) percent eosinophils in the peripheral blood count > 4%
