Description

For a regular drug regimen administered as an intravenous bolus, the average steady state plasma concentration can be calculated if kinetic parameters for the drug are known..

average steady state concentration =

= (maintenance dose) / ((dosing interval) * (clearance))

Since k = (0.693 / (half-life)) = ((clearance) / (volume of distribution)), this can be rewritten:

average steady state concentration in mg/L =

= (maintenance dose) / (volume of distribution) / ((elimination rate constant) * (dosing interval)) =

= (maintenance dose) * (1.44) * (half life in hrs) / ((volume of distribution in L) * (dosing interval in hrs))
