Taeniasis may be associated with aberrant migrations, including the biliary tract.
Species involved: Taenia solium, Taenia saginata, Taenia asiatica
Clinical features:
(1) acute cholecystitis or cholangitis
(2) presence of an adult Taenia within the gallbladder
(3) histologic evidence of biliary inflammation
Speciation may be based on:
(1) egg morphology
(2) PCR
Complications:
(1) gallbladder perforation
