Farris et al reported the brain metastasis velocity (BMV) as a prognostic measure for a patient with brain metastases. The authors are from Wake Forest University, Vanderbilt University and Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Patient selection: brain metastasis after first stereotactic radiosurgery
Parameters:
(1) cumulative number of new brain metastases that have developed since first stereotactic radiosurgery
(2) time in years since the stereotactic surgery
BMV = number of new metastases per year =
= (new brain metastases) / (time interval)
Interpretation:
• The higher the BMV the greater the risk.
BMV
