Description

Kim et al reported the Breast Reconstruction Risk Assessment (BRA) score to predict the common complications after breast reconstruction. One model estimates the risk of a seroma occurring. The authors are from Northwestern University, Lehigh Valley Health Network, and University of Illinois.

Patient selection: breast reconstruction surgery

Reported rate of seroma: around 3%

Parameters:

(1) age in years

(2) body mass index (BMI) in kg per square meter

(3) smoking status

(4) diabetes

(5) ASA status (ASA 5 would be unlikely)

(6) reconstruction modality
