A patient with Behcet's disease is at increased risk for hepatic vein thrombosis (Budd-Chiari syndrome).

Possible mechanisms for thrombosis: vasculitis, antiphospholipid antibodies, other
Key finding: thrombosis of hepatic veins and portal hypertension with abdominal pain, ascites, hepatosplenomegaly and abnormal liver function tests
Clinical and pathologic features:
(1) more often in males
(2) may be associated with thrombosis of the inferior vena cava
(3) often associated with acute liver failure and high mortality
(4) exclusion of other cause for Budd-Chiari syndrome
