A patient with sickle anemia may have multiple cardiac abnormalities.
Patient selection: sickle cell anemia
Possible cardiac abnormalities include:
(1) left ventricular dilation and hypertrophy
(2) myocardial perfusion abnormalities with ischemia
(3) systolic and/or diastolic dysfunction
(4) pulmonary hypertension
(5) tricuspid and/or mitral regurgitation
(6) atrial arrhythmias
(7) left atrial dilation
(8) hyperdynamic cardiac output
(9) right-to-left shunt
(10) potential cardiac hemosiderosis
