A patient with hereditary hemorrhagic telangiectasia can develop several cardiac comorbidities. The most common is development of cardiac arrhythmias.
Cardiac arrhythmias include:
(1) atrial fibrillation
(2) atrial flutter
(3) tachycardia
Factors impacting arrhythmias:
(1) iron deficiency anemia (associated with GI AVM and frequent nosebleeds)
(2) intravenous iron therapy
(3) repeated blood transfusions
(4) high output heart failure
(5) pulmonary hypertension
(6) asthma
(7) inflammatory bowel disease
(8) arthritis
