Causes of a false-positive for the urine ketone test:
(1) drugs with a free-sulfhydryl group (captopril, D-penicillamine, mesna)
(2) levodopa
(3) highly pigmented urine
(4) laboratory error
Trace positivity can be seen with:
(1) low urine pH
(2) urine with a high specific gravity
