Description

A false elevation of serum chloride can be seen with a number of conditions. The presence of pseudohyperchloremia may be associated with a negative anion gap.


The most common cause of pseudohyperchloremia is bromide intoxication.

 

Other causes of  pseudohyperchloremia:

(1) sodium nitrate ingestion

(2) ingestion of bromvalerylurea

(3) salicylate intoxication

(4) iodide ingestion
