Description

Asymptomatic bacteriuria is the occurrence of bacteria in the urine with no clinical symptomatology.


 

History:

(1) an indwelling urine catheter is present within 7 days before collection of a positive urine culture

(2) no indwelling urinary catheter is present within 7 days before collection the 1st of two positive urine cultures

 

Absence of symptoms:

(1) no fever (> 38 °C)

(2) no urgency

(3) no frequency

(4) no dysuria

(5) no suprapubic tenderness

 

Criteria 1 - one of the following:

(1) history of urinary catheter

(2) absence of symptoms

(3) 1 occurrence of a urine culture with >= 100,000 colonies per mL with no more than 2 species of organisms

 

Criteria 2 - all of the following:

(1) no history of urinary catheter

(2) absence of symptoms

(3) 2 occurrences of a urine culture with >= 100,000 colonies per mL with no more than 2 species of organisms
