Capillaria hepatica is a tissue nematode that can affect the liver.
Source of infection: accidental ingestion of soil that contains embryonated eggs
Clinical features:
(1) variable persistent fever
(2) variable abdominal pain
(3) variable hepatomegaly
Laboratory findings:
(1) eosinophilia
(2) abnormal liver function tests
(3) stool negative for eggs of Capillaria hepatica
The presence of eggs in a liver biopsy is diagnostic.
