A craniopharyngioma is a rare suprasellar tumor that arises from remnants of Rathke's pouch. It may present with a number of signs and symptoms.
Clinical features:
(1) headaches (which may be associated with intracranial hypertension or hydrocephalus)
(2) neurologic disorders
(3) psychiatric disorders
(4) visual deficits
(5) endocrine dysfunction
Neurologic disorders:
(1) confusion and/or dementia
(2) slow mentation
(3) drowsiness
(4) impaired memory
(5) cranial nerve palsy
(6) motor deficits
Psychiatric disorders:
(1) personality change
(2) depression
Visual deficits
(1) decreased visual acuity in one or both eyes
(2) visual field defects (bitemporal hemianopia, other)
(3) papilledema
Endocrine disorders:
(1) growth hormone deficiency with short stature
(2) asthenia
(3) sexual dysfunction (precocious puberty, delayed puberty, amenorrhea, abnormal menses, other)
(4) diabetes insipidus with polydipsia and polyuria
(5) hypothyroidism
(6) panhypopituitarism
