Sometimes tularemia can cause a life-threatening infection.
Usual strain: F. tularensis subspecies tularensis
Incubation: 2-4 days usually (range 1-10 days)
Initial features:
(1) flu-like symptoms with chills and fever
(2) headache
(3) generalized aches
Later features:
(4) bacteremia
(5) abdominal pain with extensive gastrointestinal mucosal ulceration
(6) pneumonia
(8) splenomegaly
(9) hypotension or shock
(10) delirium
Lymphadenopathy and a cutaneous ulcer are often absent.
The mortality rate may range form 30-60%
