Human infection with an acanthocephala species is rare and symptoms are usually ascribed to another cause.
Clinical findings in a patient infected with an acanthocephala worm:
(1) gastritis
(2) enteritis
(3) peritonitis following bowel wall perforation at a point of attachment
(4) passage of an adult worm
Some patients are asymptomatic.
