A patient with the hypereosinophilic syndrome will manifest a number of clinical findings based the organs involved by the cellular proliferation and chemicals released.
Clinical signs and symptoms may include:
(1) weakness
(2) fatigue
(3) fever
(4) excessive sweating
(5) anorexia
(6) nausea
(7) diarrhea
(8) weight loss
(9) abdominal cramps
(10) myalgias
(11) arthralgias or polyarthritis
(12) congestive heart failure (associated with myocarditis or cardiomyopathy)
(13) cardiac arrhythmias
(14) endomyocardial disease (endomyocardial fibrosis)
(15) pericarditis
(16) chronic cough
(17) dyspnea
(18) pulmonary infiltrates
(19) pleural effusion
(20) deep vein thrombosis
(21) pulmonary embolism
(22) lymphadenopathy
(23) splenomegaly
(24) splenic infarct
(25) change in behavior or worsening of a pre-existing psychiatric disorder
(26) change in cognitive function (confusion, etc)
(27) spasticity
(28) peripheral neuropathy
(29) focal cerebral lesion
(30) eosinophilic meningitis
(31) pruritis
(32) urticarial skin rash
(33) papulonodular or vesicobullous skin lesions
(34) angioedema
(35) dermatographism
(36) renal dysfunction
(37) eosinophilic ascites
Laboratory findings:
(1) persistent eosinophilia
(2) anemia
(3) thrombocytopenia
(4) elevated IgE
