Pulmonary infectious complications:
(1) empyema
(2) necrotizing pneumonia
(3) lung abscess
Other pulmonary complications
(1) pleural effusion
(2) pneumothorax
(3) bronchopleural fistula
(4) acute respiratory failure
Metastatic infectious complications:
(1) meningitis
(2) central nervous system (CNS) abscess
(3) pericarditis
(4) endocarditis
(5) osteomyelitis
(6) septic arthritis
Systemic complications:
(1) bacteremia/septicemia
(2) septic shock (multi-organ failure)
(3) coagulopathy (DIC, hemolytic uremic syndrome)
