When a patient presents with vitiligo, then it is important to look for an underlying or comorbid condition. These typically have a dysfunction of the immune system such as autoimmunity.
Neurologic or sensory organs conditions:
(1) Guillain-Barre syndrome
(2) multiple sclerosis
(3) myasthenia gravis
(4) uveitis
(5) sensorineural hearing loss
Endocrine conditions:
(1) Addison's disease
(2) autoimmune polyendocrinopathy
(3) autoimmune thyroid disease
(4) type I or type 2 diabetes
Gastrointestinal tract:
(1) celiac disease
(2) inflammatory bowel disease
(3) pernicious anemia
(4) Sjogren's syndrome
Infection:
(1) hepatitis C
(2) Helicobacter pylori
(3) HIV/AIDS
(4) rheumatic fever
Skin conditions:
(1) alopecia areata
(2) atopic dermatitis
(3) dermatitis herpetiformis
(4) discoid lupus
(5) halo nevus
(6) lichen sclerosus et atrophicus
(7) mucous membrane pemphigoid
(8) mycosis fungoides
(9) pemphigus vulgaris
(10) psoriasis
(11) scleroderma
Multisystem involvement:
(1) rheumatoid arthritis
(2) sarcoidosis
(3) spondyloarthritis
(4) systemic lupus erythematosus
