Complications Associated with Scabies

Infection with scabies may be associated with a number of complications.

Variant clinical syndromes:

(1) nodular scabies

(2) bullous scabies

(3) crusted scabies

pruritis with scratching	sleep disturbances
visible skin lesions	stigma, being ostracized
cellulitis with Staphylococcus aureus	abscess, sepsis
cellulitis with Streptococcous pyogenes	impetigo, sepsis, rheumatic fever, rheumatic heart disease, glomerulonephritis
infection with other bacteria	sepsis
glomerulonephritis	hematuria, chronic renal disease
disability	economic burden
post-treatment eczema
