Biliary sludge may be associated with a number of conditions. The sludge may disappear or imrpove if the underlying condition (metabolic syndrome, drug exposure, pregnancy) can be controlled.
Conditions associated with biliary sludge:
(1) metabolic syndrome
(2) pregnancy
(3) sickle cell disease or other hemoglobinopathies
(4) enteral nutrition
(5) cirrhosis
(6) drugs (cephalosporins, motesanib, others)
