A stereotactic biopsy allows for sampling of a breast lesion through a smaller skin incision. While applicable to many breast lesions, it has a number of contraindications for its use.
Contraindications - lesion related:
(1) presence of radial scar
(2) lesion that cannot be visualized or that is poorly visualized
Contraindications - patient related:
(1) woman unable to lie prone long enough to undergo the procedure
(2) woman with small breasts (compressible to < 2 cm)
