A small number of patients may have a contraindication to placement of an intraosseous infusion needle. Some limits apply only to selection of a single site, while others would affect all possible sites.
Local contraindication:
(1) fracture
(2) infected third degree burn
(3) cellulitis
(4) immobilization impossible
(5) localized bone disease
Absolute contraindication:
(1) generalized bone disease (osteogenesis imperfecta, osteopetrosis)
