Conversion of units for inorganic phosphorus is affected by pH. Inorganic phosphorus in the serum consists of HPO4(-2) and H2PO4(-1). Conversion from mass units to electrochemical units needs to take into account the amount of free hydrogen ion.
Parameters:
(1) units - mg/dL or mEq/L
(2) pH over the range of 7.10 to 7.70
factor for conversion from mg/dL =
= (-0.1024 * ((pH)^2)) + (1.637 * (pH)) - 5.925
serum inorganic phosphorus in mEq/L =
= (serum inorganic phosphorus in mg/dL) * (factor for conversion)
