Barnard et al listed criteria for the use of Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta (REBOA) in a trauma patient. The authors are from multiple institutions in England, Wales, Scotland, the United States and Brazil.
Indications:
(1) systolic blood pressure < 90 mm Hg
(2) AIS >= 3 intra-abdominal and/or pelvic trauma

Contraindications:
(1) noncompressible hemorrhage in the superior mediastinum
(2) noncompressible hemorrhage in the axilla
(3) noncompressible hemorrhage in the head or neck
