Eron and Passos listed criteria for the therapeutic response in a patient with cellulitis. The authors are from the University of Hawaii.
Criteria for clinical improvement:
(1) no further advancement of the cellulitis (preferably regression)
(2) normalization of the white blood cell count
(3) improvement in feelings of well-being
Cure was defined as the absence of all signs of infection.
where:
• A patient with neutropenia is unlikely to normalize the white blood cell count.
• For a patient with systemic complications, improvement would include reversal of these findings.
