Description

Howes et al reported criteria for treatment response for a patient being treated for schizophrenia. The authors are from the Treatment Response and Resistance in Psychosis (TRRIP) Working Group.


Patient selection: being treated for schizophrenia

 

Criteria for an adequate treatment response - all of the following:

(1) symptoms severity not more than mild (none, minimal, mild)

(2) response duration >= 12 weeks

(3) functional impairment mild or better on a standardized scale

 

where:

• Social and Occupational Functioning Scale (SOFAS) can be used to grade functional impairment.

• Adverse side effects also need to be taken into consideration, unless considered to be part of symptom severity.
