Lyons et al reported criteria for the sepsis-associated coagulopathy (SAC). The authors are from Washington University in St. Louis.
Patient selection: sepsis
Parameters - based on most severe if more than one result available.:
(1) INR
(2) platelet count per microliter
INR
Platelet Count
Severity
< 1.2
> 150,000 per microliter
none
1.2 to 1.39
100,001 to 150,000
mild
1.4 to 1.59
80,001to 100,000
moderate
>= 1.6
<= 80,000 per µL
severe
If the INR or platelet count were not available, then the severity was indeterminate.
The severity assignment assumed the pairs given as shown in the table. No guidance is given for interpreting INR and platelet count indicating different severity levels.
The risk of bleeding and the risk of mortality increase as the severity of SAC increases
