An ectopic pregnancy with implantation in the ovary is uncommon. Sergent et al listed criteria for an ovarian ectopic pregnancy that can be used in conjunction with those of Spiegelberg.
Criteria for an ovarian ectopic pregnancy:
(1) serum beta-HCG >= 1,000 IU/L AND uterine cavity negative at vaginal ultrasonography (indicates an ectopic pregnancy)
(2) ovarian involvement identified with bleeding, visualization of chorionic villi and/or atypical cyst in the ovary
(3) normal fallopian tubes (shared with Spiegelberg)
(4) reduction in serum HCG after treatment of the ovary
