The Acute Kidney Injury Network (AKIN) has reported criteria for the stages of acute kidney injury (AKI)
Acute kidney injury (AKI) is an abrupt reduction in renal function (occurs in less than 48 hours).
Parameters:
(1) baseline serum creatinine in mg/dL
(2) current serum creatinine in mg/dL
(3) renal replacement therapy
(4) urine output in mL per kilogram per hour
change in serum creatinine from baseline =
= (current serum creatinine) – (baseline serum creatinine)
current serum creatinine as percent of baseline serum creatinine =
= (current creatinine) / (baseline creatinine) * 100%
Stage |
Serum Creatinine |
---|---|

3 |
serum creatinine >= 4.0 mg/dL AND acute increase >= 0.5 mg/dL |
3 |
current creatinine as percent of baseline > 300% |
2 |
current creatinine as percent of baseline > 200% AND <= 300% |
1 |
change in serum creatinine >= 0.3 mg/dL |
1 |
current creatinine as percent of baseline >= 150% AND <= 200% |
Stage |
Urine Output |
