Hypochloremia may be seen with a number of conditions.
Causes of hypochloremia include:
(1) protracted vomiting
(2) diuretic therapy
(3) prolonged gastric suction
(4) chronic respiratory acidosis
(5) salt-losing nephropathy
(6) adrenocortical insufficiency
(7) primary aldosteronism
(8) SIADH
(9) water intoxication
(10) burns
(11) alkalosis with potassium depletion
(12) chronic laxative abuse
(13) excessive sweating
(14) cerebral salt wasting after head injury
