There are a number of hereditary disorders associated with the presence of silvery hair.
Conditions associated with silvery grey hair:
(1) Chediak-Higashi Syndrome
(2) Griscelli Syndrome
(3) Elejalde Syndrome
Pigment dilution (partial oculocutaneous albinism) may be present.
All 3 conditions show an autosomal recessive inheritance.
Chediak-Higashi Syndrome and Griscelli Syndrome have an immunodeficiency. No immune defect is seen with Elejalde Syndrome.
It is necessary to exclude any artificial hair coloring.
