Description

Cappellini et al for developed a Disease Severity Scoring System (DSSS) for patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT). One component deals with the cardiovascular status. The authors are from the University of Milan, University College London, American University of Beirut, University of Athens, Mahidol University (Bangkok) and the University of Cagliari.

Patient selection: non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT)

Parameters:

(1) left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF, current or within past 3 months)

(2) cardiac T2 on MRI (current or within past 3 months)

(3) heart failure (current or within past 6 months)

(4) cardiac arrhythmias

(5) thrombosis
