Wennesland et al developed several equations for predicting the plasma volume in adult males. The authors are from the University of California San Francisco and University of California at Berkeley.
NOTE: The authors are the same as in the next section.
Subjects were adult males mostly in their 20's and 30's.
plasma volume in mL =
= (29.7 * (body height in cm)) - 2770
plasma volume in mL =
= (19.6 * (body weight in kg)) + 1050
plasma volume in mL =
= (19.9 * (height in cm)) + (13.1 * (weight in kg)) - 2000
plasma volume in mL =
= (1580 * (BSA in square meter)) - 520
Performance:
• The standard deviations were from 240 to 260 mL.
• The coefficient of variation is around 10%.
