Description

Wu et al used bioelectric impedence analysis (BIA) to estimate fat-free mass (FFM) in healthy Taiwanese patients. The authors are from National Chung Hsing University in Taichung City, Taiwan.

Patient selection: healthy Taiwanese, age range 16 to 75 years

Analysis: foot-to-foot impedance (current 50 kHx, measurements repeated until stable to within 5 ohms, averaging at least 3 repeated measurement, HBF-361, Omron Healthcare)

Parameters:

(1) weight in kilograms

(2) height in cm

(3) foot-to-foot impedance in ohms

(4) age in years

(5) gender (0 if female,1 if male)

predicted fat-free mass in kg =

= 13.055 + (0.204 * (weight)) + (0.394 * ((height)^2) / (impedance)) – (0.136 * (age)) + (8.125 * (points for gender))
