Rodriguez et al reported equations for estimating the height of Spanish adult based on lengths of the metatarsal (MT) bones. The authors are from the University of Santiago de Compostela and Monforte Hospital in Spain.
Patient selection: Spaniard, age >= 19 years of age
Parameters:
(1) gender
(2) maximum lemgth of the first metatarsal in mm (distance from the tip of the tuberosity and the most distal point of the head)
(3) maximum length of the second metatarsal in mm (distance from the proximal tip to the most distal point of the head)
Gender
Bone
Stature in mm
male
first MT
(12.79 * (length)) + 819.88
male
second MT
(14.2 * (length)) + 687.69
female
first MT
(7.606 * (length)) + 1062.852
female
second MT
(7.507 * (length)) + 1051.211
Performance:
• The equations for the first metatarsal had r-square of 0.73 (female) or 0.78 (male).
• The equations for the second metatarsal had r-square of 0.71.
