Description

Muncie et al used long bone measurements to estimate the height of bedridden elderly women in nursing homes. They used the formulas developed by Trotter and Gleser.

NOTE: The authors also used the knee height method of Chumlea et al, discussed above.

The height estimated from the long bone estimate should be adjusted for age, as discussed in the previous section.

Measurement for White Women

estimated height in cm =

= (3.36 * (length of humerus in cm)) + 57.97

= (2.90 * (length of tibia in cm)) + 61.53

= (1.35 * (length of humerus in cm)) + (1.95 * (length of tibia in cm)) + 52.77

Measurement for Black Woman

estimated height in cm =

= (3.08 * (length of humerus in cm)) + 64.67

= (2.45 * (length of tibia in cm)) + 72.65

= (1.08 * (length of humerus in cm)) + (1.79 * (length of tibia in cm)) + 62.8
