Patient selection: pediatric patient
Pattern of vasculitis: inflammation predominantly of medium-sized blood vessels
Clinical and laboratory features of cutaneous polyarteritis:
(1) subcutaneous nodules that are painful and non-pruritic
(2) variable livedo reticularis
(3) variable myalgia, arthralgia or nonerosive arthritis
(4) absence of other systemic findings
(5) skin biopsy shows necrotizing non-granulomatous vasculitis.
(6) negative tests for antineutrophilic antibodies (ANCA)
(7) variable evidence for recent streptococcal infection

• The skin biopsy may need to be deep to detect arteries of sufficient size.
