A patient with Fanconi anemia may experience excessive bone marrow following chemotherapy or radiation therapy.
Patient selection: Fanconi anemia following chemotherapy and/or radiation therapy
Complications:
(1) excessive myelosuppression for a given therapy dose
(2) delayed recovery
Significance:
(1) The patient should be treated at a center familiar with handling patients with Fanconi anemia.
(2) Therapy regimens may need to use lower treatment doses.
(3) A regimen including stem cell transplant may be considered.
