Probst et al reported the FAINT score to evaluate a patient with syncope presenting to the Emergency Department. This can help to identify a patient at low risk for significant underlying cardiac disease. The authors are from multiple institutions from around the United States.
FAINT is an acronym based on letters from the 5 parameters.
Patient selection: older adult (>= 60 years) with syncope or near syncope.
Parameters:
(1) history of heart failure (F)
(2) history of cardiac arrhythmias (A)
(3) initial ECG abnormal (I)
(4) elevated NT-proBNP (N)
(5) elevated hs-troponin T (T)

Interpretation:
• minimum score: 0
• maximum score: 6
• A score of 0 is associated with a low risk for death or serious cardiac outcome at 30 days.
Performance:
• The area under the ROC curve is 0.704.
