Atrial myxomas may occur in families as part of Carney's complex.
Synonyms: LAMB (lentigenes, atrial myxoma, mucocutaneous myxoma, blue nevi), NAME (nevi, atrial myxoma, myxoid neurofibroma, ephelides)
Inheritance: autosomal dominant
Chromosome location: heterogenous with loci including 2p16 and 17q22-24
Features of atrial myxoma:
(1) may be multiple
(2) can be bilateral
Other findings may include:
(1) facial freckling (lentigines)
(2) nevi
(3) endocrine adenomas
(4) myxoid neurofibromas
Echocardiography is helpful in diagnosis of the patient and monitoring for recurrence.
