Description

Ohta et al reported the Fibrosis Index (FI) for predicting hepatic fibrosis in a patient with chronic HCV using laboratory test results. The authors are from Okayama University, National Hospital Organization Iwakuni Clinical Center, and Hiroshima City Hospital in Japan.

Patient selection: chronic HCV

Parameters:

(1) platelet count in 10^3 per microliter

(2) serum albumin in g/dL

FI =

= 8.28 - (0.01 * (platelet count in 10^3/µL)) - (1.08 * (serum albumin))

simplified to

= 8.0 - (0.01 * (platelet count in 10^3/µL)) - (serum albumin)

Fibrosis Index

Stage of Fibrosis

< 2.10

F0 or F1

>= 3.30

F4

2.10 to 3.29

F2 or F3

Performance:

• The area under the ROC curve for F0 or F1 was 0.74.

• The area under the ROC curve for F3 and F4 was 0.91.
