Schmitt et al developed an equation for predicting the clearance of carboplatin for a patient that can be used regardless of weight status. The authors are from multiple universities in France.
Parameters:
(1) serum creatinine in µmol/L
(2) serum cystatin C in mg/L
(3) actual body weight in kilograms
(4) age in years
(5) gender points (0 if male, 1 if female)
estimated carboplatin clearance in mL per min =
= 117.8 * (((creatinine) / 75)^(-0.45)) * ((cystatin C)^(-0.385)) * (((weight) / 65)^(0.504)) * (((age) / 56)^(-0.366)) * (0.847^(gender points))
As indicated in the previous section this can be used to determine the dose of carboplatin in mg:
dose of carboplatin in mg =
= (target AUC) / (carboplatin clearance in mL per min)
