Van Hook et al developed an algorithm for selecting an ambulatory device for an elderly patient with a gait disorder. The authors are from the University of Arizona and SunDance Rehabilitation Corporation in Tuscon, Arizona.
Parameters:
(1) need to use both upper extremities for balance and/or weight bearing
(2) need for the device to be weight bearing
(3) frequency of need for the device to be weight bearing
